Type of Ration Card in ASSAM
A ration card is an important subsistence tool for the poor people & middle class. A ration card provides proof of identity and a connection with the Government database. India’s public distribution system (PDS) is based on the ration card, which is used to establish identity, eligibility, and entitlement. Before the implementation old NASA ‘i3’ in the state, there were three types of Ration Cards, termed Family Identity Cards (FIC) in Assam. These three types of ration cards were meant for
- APL (Above Poverty Line)
- BPL (Below Poverty Line)
- AAY (Antyodaya Anna Yojana) beneficiaries under PDS/TPDS Cards)
Besides, three there was another type of Ration Card issued by the State Government which was called the MMASY (Mukhya Mantri Anna Suraksha Yojana) card.

Eligibility for Applying for the Ration Card
A person who has no Ration Card can apply. The eldest woman of a family who is a bonafide citizen of this country with an annual family income (with all sources) of less than Rs. 1,00,0000 (Rupee One Lakh) may apply for getting a new ration card. The eldest male person may apply in some way. The individual must produce a certificate from the village Head/Gaon panchayat president/ward Commissioner/Inspector, FCS&CA /Concerned Authority in writing that the person has no Ration Card. Such a certificate will normally be granted after the person files an affidavit to this effect to the issuing authority. This document is to be attached along with the Ration Card application form.
